Amphiaraos was worshipped with a hero cult. He was considered a healing and fortune-telling god. In Seven against Thebes, an Oedipus-themed play by Aeschylus, Zeus throws his thunderbolt and the earth opens to swallow Amphiaraos.
Amphiaraos fit l'objet d'un culte héroïque chthonien. Il était adoré comme un dieu guérisseur et prédisant l’avenir. Dans Sept contre Thèbes, une pièce d'Eschyle, à thématique oedipienne, Zeus projette son éclair et la terre s’ouvre pour avaler Amphiaraos.
